Do not leave your vacation in Singapore without having kaya toast for breakfast. Having featured in many food blogs, Good Morning Nanyang Cafe is claimed to be the best kaya toast in town. Me too, definitely think the same. Strangely, I did not purposely go and find this cafe to satisfy my craving for kaya toast, however, it can be said that we were meant to be. I passed by the famous cafe on my way to Chinatown MRT and saw their standing banner. Apparently, it is not their main branch, but who cares, we still had our breakfast there on the next day anyway.
The cafe was quite small and only occupies around 4 tables with 4 seats. There are not many people that day, so no need to queue to get the famous kaya toast. From the menu displayed, you can choose either set or ala carte. Like any other kopitiam parlour, the set comes with two soft boiled eggs and a choice of tea or coffee. However, the thing that apart from any other stalls is the bread selection. From the unique one, ciabatta toast, until the most normal bread available to please the craving customers.
We ordered 3 sets, ciabatta, thick toast and the normal thin sliced toast. Our impression of the soft boiled eggs was phenomenal. Honestly, I had never found any that perfectly cooked but the white part is still wobbly. So good.
The ciabatta toast was another new great experience for us. Usually, ciabatta is used for savoury sandwich but this cafe take it to another level. A unique flavour from combination of the toast texture and the top-notch kaya spread and cold butter.
Likewise, the normal toast was also good, it's well toasted, crispy outside, and still can feel the soft bread-ish texture inside. The double stacks were also a plus, as the usual coffee shop's kaya toast will only serve two sandwiches while nanyang cafe gives us four!
The thick toast was left behind as they take our order. It was equally good but it's abit soggy in my opinion. The coffee and tea, as well, had a good flavour and balance of tea or coffee and condensed milk. As much as I love KOI, but I still prefer the traditional milk tea that use condensed milk to the sweet-creamery milk tea.
Overall it was a nice experience having a breakfast in that cafe. Indeed, the price is higher that other stalls, but with great the taste, portion and satisfaction after leaving the place, it's more than worth it.
