Angke : The Authentic Chinese Restaurant

Angke has been a legend for their authentic Chinese cuisine here. Honestly, I indeed prefer the Chinese restaurants that filled and talked by old people as it indicated that their dishes are worth the wait. Yea, I said "worth the wait" as Angke always packed during lunch and dinner time and have a long list of waiting hungry customers.

Me, as a youngster also like to join of the old men's excitement for this restaurant. I have been eating at Angke since my childhood (well not frequently) and til now I still claim their rendition of "lindung cah fumak" (stir fried eel with fumak veggies) is the best. Intense flavour of the sauce and seasoning makes you can not stop digging in. The other reason why they serve the best lindung is that the eel is not mushy but still firm and soft inside with a nice bit of crispiness on every bite.

Our order also came with salad dingin that day (cold salad), a plate of chinese salad, that contain guts on the side with coleslaw (mixed turnips, carrots and jelly fish). This is one of the recommended dish to have as well and the only dish I could snapped during my family dinner. It's really hard to take a picture when you go eating with family, the dishes are gone in no time (ha!).

Besides, it's also a must to try their steamed chicken with garlic, shrimp spring roll and "sapo tahu". They are pricey I admit, but along with the reasonable portion and amazing taste, they are worth to be priced that high. If it's not worth it, there won't be such a long queue right? All is good, the only thing I could say.

Lunch at Pancious Taman Anggrek

What could you expect from Pancious to be awesome other than it's indulging pancakes and pastas? My answer is its all day breakfast. Typical English (western) breakfast, my choice was omelette, oftentimes underestimated. While it sounds simple, but many restaurants (even 5 star hotel) have possibilities to fail. However, I give my salute to Pancious as its rendition is superb.

Pancious successfully delivers the right consistency and texture of a perfect omelette; fluffy and not overcooked. You still can feel the wobbly eggs flow down to your tummy and you feel like ohm-ing at the same time. The melted cheese, perfect texture and seasoning can spoil your palate. Furthermore, the omelette is complemented with its famous grilled potatoes and salad. I have already favourited its grilled baby potato indeed, but I am glad that I managed to find the new dish to miss.

After this new experience, I believe there are more unexpectedly great nomming to explore at Pancious kitchen menu.

Dinner at Kitchenette Central Park Mall

After being disappointed of dining in Kitchenette Thamrin branch in my first visit, I came again with my friends to have dinner, but this time it's Central Park branch. This branch has a unique building construction, as the place is combined with Pizza E Birra and surrounded by pool.

Well, I and my friends totally had a different menu that day and tend to avoid to order the dishes we had in our first visit. Thus, we had chose their mains over galettes and Spanish tapas instead of salad. We ate croquette with chorizo and ratatouille, baked mushroom with cream sauce as appetizer followed by wild salmon, half roast chicken, pesto chicken spaghetti, carbonara pasta and lastly, grilled octopus. As we are fans of tea, we decided to have 5 different flavours of premium tea; Moroccan mint, sencha tea, grand wedding, passion fruit and creme caramel tea.

The Spanish croquette, consisted of three balls of deep fried potato croquette with gooey cheese filling on top of big lettuce with a sprinkle of ratatouille and chorizo accompanied by a small bowl of chili sauce. Yea, it's only a sprinkle which I wished they put more in the dish. The chili sauce was mild and sweet, typical thai chili sauce. The other appetizer, the baked mushroom has a nice creamy sauce, but the taste was rather contradicted. I think it might be due to the thickness of the cream sauce that overpowered the mushroom; unlike the mushroom cream soup that has a well balance flavour with lighter texture. Despite of that, I like the cream sauce standalone.
My main dish, half roast chicken, served with garlic herb butter, salad and baked potato. Unlike any other baked potato that is usually unpeeled, wrapped with aluminium foil and topped with cold butter, Kitchenette rendition was resemblance to lasagna. Thinly sliced potato and stacked with cream spread on each layer and some cheese on top to create a nice golden brown colour. It was good, but unfortunately, it's too small (at least for me). The chicken itself was marinated and well seasoned. Strangely, the dish had a kind of "tongseng" smell; the Indonesian dish with santan soup base that usually has mutton and shredded cabbage and tomato as the main ingredient. I was wondering what herbs that enhanced that good aroma. I couldn't finish it despite of the good taste and let my guy friend took care half of it.

As one of their recommended dish, the grilled octopus was well executed. The octopus was cooked perfectly and got a nice charred flavour. It has a unique texture as I bit the tentacle. It was a new experience for me to eat a big octopus as I have only ever had their babies that Japanese restaurants usually have as an appetizer. The last meaty dish, wild salmon with cream sauce, served with sauteed long beans and roast potato was disappointing. It's tagged as a new dish served there and I think they haven't got ahead of it. It had fishy smell; nothing to brag about.

For pasta dishes, both carbonara and pesto chicken sauce were excellent. However, I slightly scored the pesto higher than carbonara as it had basil smell but in a good way, it was well seasoned and not too creamy. Another reason, many restaurants can serve carbonara pasta at the same yummy level. Thus, the pesto chicken spaghetti indeed deserves to be their signature dishes.

Most of us agreed that the pesto chicken spaghetti was the dish of the day. Other than the dish, we enjoyed our catching up as they have a friendly ambiance and cozy place to hold us for long hours.

Chinese Feast at Ce Wei Artha Gading

So far, Ce Wei might be one of the best dim sum in Jakarta, yet I believe there are more better yum cha places that I have not visited. But for many discount promos to dine in Ce Wei, you could still get many decent food especially their roasted meat varieties.

The last time I visited Ce Wei Artha Gading, me and friends were getting double meat platter. Our choices were roasted duck and honey char siew. They were quite good, the duck was succulent and char siew was nicely seasoned. However, the pork was too sweet for my liking.

As I always craving for "non-halal" dim sum that pretty hard to find in Jakarta, I ordered dim sum too. But unfortunately, they only serve halal now (or since they open? I did not really pay attention). However, I still like this restaurant better than others I have attempted. I ordered chicken feet, har kau, egg custard bun, xiao long bao, durian pastry, shrimp spring roll which is wrapped with bean curd skin and siew may. All the food were pretty delicious, especially the durian pastry; which is a deep fried skin (homemade I think) with durian filling that unexpectedly be the star dish of the day. And yeah, we ordered another portion after our first one.

I am still looking for the best dim sum places (non-halal of course) that especially have the best egg custard bun like I have ever experienced in Singapore. Until now, I have not found any competitor for it. Egg custard bun is supposed to have custard filling flooding inside the bun like lava and that's the first custard bun I ate in Singapore look like. In contrast, in Jakarta, the custard filling is rather like "kaya" consistency which I think they actually indeed using kaya instead of the real egg yolk.

For all the dishes I had, I got 30% discount for the dim sum and additional 20% for the meat platter as I was offered their member card (using member card got 20% discount on weekends and 50% on weekdays). That was a very good deal I might say.

Marche at Grand Indonesia

This blog has been abandoned for about 2 months and here I am trying to lift up a post again. I have been busy, vacation-ing, to be exact in October and catching up my workload schedule that had been quite left behind. And this is the new post that you and I have been waiting for.

I acknowledged Marche when I was studying in Singapore without realising that it's always been in Indonesia for quite long time already. I heard a lot of opinions about Marche, especially the expensiveness as well as the goodness of Singapore branch. Having heard about that news, at first I did not dare to try, but apparently Indonesian branch doesn't set the price as high as in Singapore.

Thus, I am happy about it.

Marche has a food court concept where they build several counters separately in a big room. Each counter serves different menus as well, and they are cooked in front of you, except for salad counter which is held self service concept.

Caesar Salad, Rosti with egg and bacon, Cheesy Pizza

Speaking about salad, I personally like their grilled vegetables, they were tender and well seasoned. In contrast, Grilled chicken breast was rather ordinary and overpriced.

Apple Crumble and Cheese Cake
For several reasons, I only adore much their desserts and cheesy pizza. Well, I haven't tried all their dishes indeed, but their apple crumble is great. Big portions and fairly priced I reckon. The pizza was so cheesy with thin crust that suit my palate.

The seat arrangement is unique as they set different ambiance in the restaurant. They also provide playground for those bringing their children, so the parents could stay longer and enjoy their leisure time with no worries.

Coffee Tree at Mall of Indonesia

Here I am working on my blog while sipping a nice and hot cafe latte and munching some snacks at Coffee Tree. Undeniably, Coffee Tree is my new favourite hang out place for a good cup of coffee and friendly ambiance. Not only serves finished products, Coffee Tree also provides the raw ingredients and even their flavoured syrup.

This is my second time going here and I think I will keep going in the future. I deliberately writing about this cafe here, so I will be able to find new inspiration about this place. The place is cozy and it makes you feel comfortable to stay for a long time. I simply order a cup of the original cafe latte, and write about the first experience of me stepping on Coffee Tree.

My first ever ordered was Kahlua Mocha, the marriage of chocolate and coffee with Kahlua. The chocolate and coffee themselves are handmade, so it's nothing similar would be found outside. Kahlua is actually a mexican coffee that contains sugar too. However, the taste surprisingly was not as sweet as I thought. There was still strong bitterness at the end and matching my preference.
Kahlua Mocha
There are two size option for each beverage, and mine was the regular. Overall the price is reasonable like any other regular coffee shop, but this cafe offers something different that others. Hence, I would say it's worth the price.

Sushi Joobu at Kelapa Gading

My sister always loves and craves for sushi, as for me, it's supposed to be only an occasional satisfying food. Well for me Nasi Padang (Indonesian popular dish) is the most satisfying food ever.

So, get back to sushi, that's the star of this post. For this time, I chose to go to Sushi Joobu at Kelapa Gading, which was the first time for me. Basically, the sushi served there is fusion type with mayo or cheese as the condiment. However, I am kind of hybrid preference, so too much creamy cheesy mayo-ish will make me sick fast too.

The place is a two-story building, which is quite small with an open kitchen at the first floor, so we could see how the dishes freshly made. For the ordering, we could choose all you can eat or ala carte. They divide the all you can eat type into three choices, based on the unagi availability, so the most expensive one provides unagi in the menu. I chose to eat ala carte as there were only 3 of us which I am sure could not devour too many dishes.
Appetizer

As seen on the menu, dishes are similar to Poke Sushi, my favorite sushi restaurant. Wakame salad, salmon salad, salmon skin etc. I ordered salmon salad, wakame salad, crab salad and dynamite. Surprisingly, the taste of all the dishes were also similar to Poke Sushi's version. However, the wakame might be able to get more salt as the sweetness rather a bit overpowered the saltiness, so for me it's not well balanced for my palate. But, it's nice enough for me. The salmon was fresh, it's not fishy and the mayo dressing complemented the salmon very well.
Assorted Sushi
My next order was sushi. Crispy salmon sushi, dragon roll and salmon skin roll. Unfortunately, the rice was not sticky enough to hold the firmness of sushi. It easily broke apart when I was dipping it completely in soy sauce. I was kind of disappointed. Taste wise, they also did not wow me, but the dragon roll is good. It got crispy texture and of course, the star on top, unagi. On the other hand, they can still improve their rice stickiness.

Assorted Tempura
Another disappointed dish, the tempura. The batter not crispy, rather it's mushy especially the eggplant and the onion ring. I think they overcooked the vegetables. On the other hand, the sweet potato was firm and the prawns were cooked to perfection. But still, the batter pulled down the level of tempura. I was craving for nicely seasoned and crunchy tempura but it didn't meet my expectation.

Overall, based on my ordered, the food was okay but I especially like their appetizer more than my others order. Their service was good and fast. Price wise, it's reasonable for that portion, but I hope they can improve their quality.

Malaysian Curry Puff (Karipap)

There will be some pro and contra of me cooking. But yea, let me tell you folks, I actually can cook. For the first post of my cooking time, I am presenting Malaysian Spiral Curry Puff (Karipap Pusing). This dish is meant something special for me, as I have ever stayed in Singapore for 2 years to pursue an undergraduate degree. Okay, when I decided to try to make curry puff from scratch, I admit I was so missing the place that so-called my second home.

I started google-ing the recipe and I found one in an Australia-based blog, msihua.com which I am following in my instagram. I can say this is the best recipe I could find after long searching and I would love to make other batches again and again in the future.

My dough is resting
Basically, I should make 2 kind of dough to make it "pusing" and flaky. Like all the pastry dough would be made of, it should contain lots of butter and need some resting. However, for this recipe, it only needs a once-and-thirty-minute rest while most of pastry dough require more rest and fridge store.

This is why it's called "pusing"
After resting, it's time to roll the dough couple times, as for this recipe, 4 times will do. It indeed really needs extra strength to flatten the dough and I was really tired and my dough not as thin as it's supposed to be. I might want to roll it in a noodle maker machine to produce thinner and nicer dough next time.
My owned creative filling
As for the filling, it's your creativity talks. My version, I added carrots for the veggies and ground beef for the protein. Hence, a complete macro-nutrient inside a curry puff. What a healthy snacks!

Sorry, I am a messy cook
Malaysian curry puff is supposed to be deep fried, but I was trying to bake it with egg wash for a healthier version. The result? I like this version, still crispy and nice. What I didn't satisafy was the shape, it didn't look nice, I couldn't make the seal like the curry puff expert, but practice makes perfect, right?
Deep fried vs baked
Ah, please don't judge my karipaps by their look. I know it's ugly, but I can assure you that it had a nice flavour. The filling was nicely seasoned and not overwhelmed. The pastry was crispy but I admit it's not thin enough. Me and my family agree, the deep fried version was nicer. Deep frying somehow had thinner texture and of course it's more crispy. Yum!

Closer look of the filling
You can be as creative as possible for the filling. It's your freedom! But here's the original recipe.

Ingredients :

Water Dough

300g Plain Flour
1/2 tsp Salt
125ml (or 1/2 cup) Lukewarm Water
1 small beaten egg
1 tsbp of oil (I used rice bran oil, but any oil will do)

Grease dough

150g plain flour
75g cold butter

Filling

1 large onion (finely chopped)
2 cloves of garlic (finely chopped)
2 tbsp of good curry powder
3 large potatoes (cut into small cubes)
100g of chicken breast (diced)
250ml (or 1 cup) water

As I mention before the filling is about creativity, I substituted and added some ingredients.

How it works :
When the original recipe starts with cooking the curry puff filling, I started with making the dough first. While the dough was resting, I starts making the filling. But either way should work I guess.

Water dough
Combine the ingredients and knead with your fingers until the dough becomes soft, pliable and non-sticky.
Divide and roll the dough into two equal balls. Cover and set aside to rest for at least 30 minutes.

Grease Dough
Cube the butter and cut into the flour with two knives and a fork until it resembles crumbly coarse sand. Knead by hand until it turns shiny and smooth (dough-like consistency). As the butter is cold, it takes a while to combine with the flour and I was sweating, so it's good for working out substitute. At the end, divide and roll into two equal balls.

While the dough is resting, I started making the filling.

Saute the onion and garlic in a wok (or a pan) over medium heat. Add the potatoes and stir fry until it softens. Add in chicken and curry powder.

Ensure that everything is coated in the curry powder before adding the water. Add the water slowly (little by little) and allow the curry to simmer (as for my version, I added ground beef and carrots,  I used less potatoes). If you like intense flavour as me, you could add more curry powder until reach your liking. Once the potatoes have soften and the curry forms a dry curry mixture, set aside and let cool.

Forming the curry puffs
Enclose one ball of greased dough into the water dough. The water dough is very pliable so this will be easy to do.

On a lightly floured surface roll the combine dough into a thin oval shape with a rolling pin (which I kind of failed to do T.T). Roll it up and with one end facing you, roll the dough out again into a thin layer.

Roll the dough up again before slicing into 1 cm disc. Depending on the width of each slice, the number of curry puffs made will differ (larger width, bigger curry puff).

Flatten each disc (spirals will be visible at this stage) with care as the dough can easily split into layers.

Place a tablespoon (or two) of the curry puff filling into the center of the flatten disc and fold over. Seal the edges of the dough together by pinching and folding the flour to form a rope (I only managed to form one perfect rope shape). You could use a curry puff mould to make it easier.

To cook, simply deep-fry in hot oil until golden brown. As my baked version, heat oven to around 170 C and egg washed the puff then bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Adapted from Msihua
She also adapted the recipe from Samantha Tan

It turned out nice and flaky, will do better next time with a perfect shaping and layers consistency.

Ps. My little sister loved it so much! She ate all the leftover filling. I shared some with my friend and her family, they also liked it! I was a happy happy cook.

Keep in mind there will be other parts of cooking time to post. Please wait for it!

You can follow Msihua and Samantha Tan blogs as they share many delicious recipes, food reviews and traveling experience.

Yaudah Bistro

This restaurant is located in Menteng, which honestly hard to recognize for those pay their first visit. There is no sign platted around the area and the only trademark is the big yellow painted wall with a red circle in the center which rather can be misleading as a Japanese Restaurant. Furthermore, the name of this restaurant really represents as if it was serving Indonesian food, but do not get it wrong. It's actually a German's restaurant.

They serve typical German's food such as bratwurst, schnitzel, some pasta and you can also get some assorted bread to bring home. Their menu range is quite big I might say, from English breakfast until Italiano pasta. However, one of my friends, who had tried the food for couple times, told us that their signature dish must be the pork dish. Hence, a plate of Winner Schnitzel was included on our lunch that day. Beside, we also ordered beef bratwurst, luncheon meat, and grill breast chicken.

Luncheon Meat and Sunny Side Egg
The luncheon meat is a normal pork luncheon meat sold in supermarket. My friend chose the wrong dish, I think. She was disappointed too. However, the mashed potato was nice and creamy. This actually one of the reason why I like to hunt German's restaurant, because most of the time, the mashed potato doesn't fail my taste bud. The creaminess is just perfect, but unfortunately Ya Udah bistro version it's too bland for me.

Beef Bratwurst
The best known German's signature dish is probably bratwurst. The dish is easily accepted food for many people, simple, versatile and of course, meaty. Ya Udah bistro rendition was nicely seasoned, tender and big. They offer several choices for the sausage, including pork, chicken and beef. Like most bratwurst platter servings, they also added caramelized onion on it and tasted nice too.
Winner Schnitzel
One of our orders had different side dish, it was hash brown. Unfortunately, the hash brown was rather not crispy and too soggy. I think they put to much "glue" in it that make the potato itself did not stand out. On the other hand, the pork schnitzel was indeed the winner. Big size, crispy batter, tender and nicely seasoned.

Grilled Chicken Breast
This was my order and I should really have listened to my sister when she told me not to order their steak. It was so dry and tasteless. Well, it's chicken breast anyway which indeed dry and fat-less. But I think it's to dry and besides, they put too much butter which made it too oily instead of nice fatty flavour.

Overall, we had a quite good meal there with good companies too. The food is pretty decent if you choose the correct dish and big in portion with reasonable price. Next time I will definitely choose their pork dish range over other dishes. However, many reviews show that their roast chicken and pork knuckle are to die for, but it will take 1.5 hours to cook because those are slow cooking dish. So if you wish to order those, you can order 1.5 hours prior your visit.

Kainara - Gluten Free Food Store

This is something new in Indonesia. I was excited when I got this name popped out from Sophie Navita's photo in instagram (@sophienavita). Well, I am going through a healthy lifestyle, and I thought this would be worth trying. Hence, I opened their website, eye-ing their products and made a decision to buy some of the snacks, since it was approaching Eid Mubarak's holiday season. They have two choices of delivery, by their courier if prevent the orders from unwanted damage or JNE. They get their courier sent orders every Thursday with IDR 25k charged added to every order, while JNE is calculated by the weight. I got my ordered delivered by courier. Prior to being offered for their courier choice, I was told that for JNE my order was included in 1kg weight and the fee was IDR 10k.

Their snack line includes chips, crackers, cookies and even gluten-free ice cream. Besides, they also have gluten-free ingredients such as gluten-free flour and rice. For me, I ordered corn tortillas (200g, @IDR 17,500), kimpul chips (blue taro chips, 250g @IDR 19,000) and kaastangel (1 cookie jar), savory cheese cookies. However, after I got my orders delivered, I found that the cookies doesn't contain any cheese at all, only salt and some combination of flour which is gluten-free of course. Despite of very lightly seasoned, honestly, their taste was not bad. The chips were crunchy, seasoning was okay for me and because I personally like snacking so much, they were still addictive (which is actually bad for me).

Since the products are made with healthy ingredients and unfortunately they are overcharged nowadays; you might find it a bit overpriced, especially the cookies, but it's mostly reasonable I might say as having tagged as healthy food.

Overall, producing healthy products in the country which healthy eating is still rare to be lived by the citizen is a brave move and I would like to try order others product as well.

If you want to order and have any inquiry, the owner, Ms Christien can be reached through email or phone (the phone number listed for whatsapp too). She is friendly and nice, so feel free to contact her anytime.

Dill Gourmet at Plaza Indonesia

This cafe was once Secret Recipe on Lower Basement, same floor as Food Hall. The place is an open space and have many chalk-writing for their menu and promo like other normal coffee shop. As I was on mission to fulfill my randomness, so I did order random food and drink. Hence, for that night I had a cup of cappuccino and for main course, Hutong Duck Sandwich. We might have heard about peking duck, but Hutong Duck, sounds new for most of us. An interesting dish to order I might say. Apparently, Hutong, like the famous- Peking, is also a city in China. Peking is basically Beijing and Hutong, which is, well, Hutong.

Dill Gourmet has a promo of purchasing coffee or tea you will be able to get 50% off for any desserts. I definitely didn't want to miss the chance, so I bought an apple crumble pie to take away. They do not stop there, they also offer a free jumbo cookie if you follow them on twitter or instagram, snap a picture of dish you order and upload it.

Here's how it goes :
  1. Follow @dillgourmet on twitter/instagram
  2. Buy any food and beverage (or you could buy first then follow later like what I did he.he)
  3. Take a picture of those dishes
  4. Tweet or upload to instagram with mention their account and put hash-tag #dillgourmetcafe
I followed the rules and sure, I got the cookie. However, I was wondering them not checking their twitter as I could get the giant cookie by telling them that I've done those steps. No clarification and all that. Never mind, customers' gain. Ha..ha.

The cappuccino comes with green tea cookies
I guess all the beverages are complemented with green tea cookies. As for mine, cappuccino nothing to brag about, unless for the latte art which for me it's cool (Sorry, it's my first drink with latter art).

My Complete Dinner
As we can see, there's a label on the sandwich package, I reckon all the sandwiches are labeled, simple thought, so it might not switched. I uploaded this to my twitter, but as I mentioned before, I think it wasn't uploaded properly, yet, I still got the cookie. Yay!
Sorry for the truth that this ugly duckling is awesome!
Finally, I reach this part where I review the yummy duck! You have no idea how exciting I am to exaggerate the awesomeness of this dish. Okay, I am not actually exaggerating because it's truly awesome!

You can see some crackling on the bun which was crispy yet soft inside. I never ever tasted any sandwich bun like this before. The filling? Don't ask. Despite the normal veggies and condiments, the duck, once again I said, delicious. The duck have been marinated and cooked to the perfection, succulent and nicely seasoned. When I take the whole stack in one bite, the flavour and texture just complete. Got crispy and soft at the same time from the bun, salty and more sweetness from the Hutong Duck and tartness from spicy mayo. Honestly, I was surprised, in a good way, on the first bite. The sandwich is no joke.

Free Chocolate Cookie
I just recalled to snap the cookie picture when I was on the way finishing it. Apple's logo still be famous though it's halfway bitten right? LOL.
The taste was okay for me, not so sweet and the dark chocolate was prominent, which is good. I still prefer Subway's soft cookies and I miss it!

As for the apple crumble pie was not good. Maybe due to exposed too much outside fridge, so the pastry was soggy. However, the apple custard didn't wow me either. The chocolate flavour overpowered the apple mixture, while it's supposed to be the star of the dish.

Overall, the sandwich is definitely worth a try, might come back to try another variety. By the way, I only spent IDR 75k for the whole order, which I think it's pretty reasonable.

Union at Plaza Senayan

It's been quite long time I haven't posted anything. I am not an active blogger, yeah I know that. For today's post will be short too as I am still trying to boost my motivation to write more.

I was at Plaza Senayan with my friends and we happened to move our steps to Union. It was unplanned. Actually we were looking for a cafe to kill our time by chatting for the rest of the day. Well, when we saw it, we have heard several times that Union serves decent dessert, so we decided to give it a try.

There were many people inside already. It's tea time so the crowd was understandable plus long-waiting list, must be worth the wait. Union is famous for it's red velvet, it can be seen from every slice were on almost every table. Unfortunately, I am not fan of bright color cake such as rainbow cake and velvets. They just do not entice me.

Finally we got a table after about 15 minutes wait and a guy with a really nice suits came and served our order. He told us that we only have 2 hours to spend there. I supposed it's because of the crowd. We ordered the beverage from the menu list and the guy suggest to take a look at the cake counter to help us decide what cake to order. Thus, we went to the counter and we decided that we want everything. Yeah, cause the cakes looked really appetizing. But we could not be greedy as we had to save some space for our dinner.

Banana Carrot Cake
All the sliced cake were in big portion, so we thought ordered 3 slices will do. This was what we chose, Banana Carrot Cake. I did actually, cos it's been a long time since I had it and it's in Singapore! Union's rendition of this cake was excellent. Creamy cheese cake on top did not make us sick of it. The cake was not too dense and we could taste the carrot and banana in balance. So good! It actually tasted like my homemade banana bread. Yeah, I do bake, believe me and it means that my banana bread works well right? ha. ha.

Tripple Chocolate Cake
We also ordered Tripple Chocolate Cake that afternoon. Honestly, it was big, chocolaty, bitter-sweet and ordinary. Nothing special on that cake. So, we decided we prefer the carrot cake. Unanimous.

Last one we also had their peach danish, which was good I may say. It was kind of crispy outside and fluffy inside, good pastry. The peach itself got sweet and sour taste so it's balanced and combined well with the pastry. But still, the carrot cake was the winner.

It's been a long time since I had this and me and my friends agreed that we crave for it and hope can go back there again. Well, seems one of my friends could not resist her craving so she went for the second time and tried the red velvet. She told me that it is recommended! Even a lot nicer than the carrot cake. It tempts me really bad. So, apparently we should  go back there again for the red velvet. SOON.

Are You Mad for Garlic?

My answer is yes! I like all kind of root veggies including garlic and all types of onion even in raw form. But it will be quite tricky to serve food that feature those as the main ingredients; could be yay or nay .

Become the inspiration of this post, Mad for Garlic, the restaurant originated in Korea dare to take the risk. And I must say, they nail it. I have become their admirer right after my first experience tasting their food, but then I became their fan after I paid another visit, especially for their pizza range. Yea, instead of serving traditional Korean dishes, such as kimchi, jap chae etc, they offer wide variety of Italian food; fusion to be exact.
Left : Spicy Meat Dipping Pizza (Meat Dipping at bottom) Right : Garlic Snowing Pizza
When I first was recommended to give a try the garlic snowing pizza, I was quite skeptical that would be a smart choice, but I accepted the challenge and crossed my finger that the dish would no be a disaster. Well, it was definitely not, on the other hand, my personal opinion, it was phenomenal. I tasted the flavour that never existed in my mouth. It might be quite debated, as the garlic itself is not universally acceptable. However, I can say that this dish is a must try, especially for those who enjoy or even just moderately like garlic. But for those who really cannot take garlic, might give contrast results, either they suddenly find the hidden admire to it or would stay on their firm dislike behavior towards the ingredients.

Garlic Snowing Pizza
The garlic snowing pizza is a decent food with sweet taste from the spread of deep-fried garlic and pineapple dice and a hint of not-so-salty cheese on top. The sweet and salty flavour was well balanced, and every topping compliment each other. You actually can ask for more cheese anytime as they freshly grated in front of you right after they serve it on the table. The deep-fried garlic really does not produce very strong garlic smell and bitter, rather it's sweet, fragrant and crispy. The pizza crust is made thin so it's crisp and I think it's suitable with the topping taste. This dish is awarded with my respect, the-weirdest-yet-best-and-nicest pizza I have ever eaten. I was so impressed till the extent of missing the taste in my palate when I was having an authentic Italian pizza at Pepenero.
Garlicholic Fried Rice
Enough about the snow pizza, I believe I would not stop bragging about it and it's time this unique fried rice to take the spot, Garlicholic Fried Rice. It was like any other normal fried rice, nicely seasoned but nothing special; just normal fried rice but with whole-roasted garlic.

This restaurant offers many decent food, and the price tags picture them well. Money talks. Well, if you look for new food experience and do not mind to spend extra, this restaurant can cover all.
Try the garlic snowing pizza, it's a must.

Hokkaido Ramen Santouka at Plaza Indonesia

I was meeting up with a friend and having a movie night. For dinner, my friend suggested to have Santouka Ramen at Plaza Indonesia. I am not really a big fan of ramen, but since I heard many good reviews about it, so I thought I will give it a try.

The restaurant was crowded, but we managed to get a table since there were just two of us. My friend had a soyu ramen that I didn't have a chance to snap the pic cause he just too hungry to let the ramen sat to long in front of him. While for me, I always have miso ramen at any ramen restaurant because of the strong savoury flavour and add some chili powder for extra kick taste.
Miso Ramen
Honestly, the taste was good, but not amazing, I can get the same good-taste at Hakata Ikousha with much cheaper price.

Char Shew Pork
Despite of having not-amazing ramen, my friend's recommendation of char shew pork was a bomb! It's plated simple yet so sinfully delicious! (bye my healthy diet)
Thinly sliced, just nice balance cut of fat and meat so it's not too heavy. This dish can't be skipped.

Overall, if happen to come back again, I would definitely order the char shew.
